Counterpoint Vocal Ensemble Inc.
A community group specialising in a cappella (unaccompanied) vocal repertoire, Counterpoint has been around since 1987 when the choir was formed by Ian and Lesley Brown in response to a need for a quality choral music group on the Redcliffe Peninsula, north of Brisbane.
Our repertoire ranges from Elizabethan madrigals and medieval festival music to modern, close harmony jazz arrangements. It also includes both sacred and secular works. We particularly enjoy music by Australian composers including Martin Wesley-Smith, Stephen Leek, Graeme Morton, Ralph Morton, Colin Brumby, Clare Maclean, George Palmer and more.
We have presented recitals & concerts in Redcliffe (our original home base), the greater north Brisbane area and beyond, including Dayboro, Caloundra, Maryborough, Kingaroy, New Farm, Bardon, Norman Park, Cleveland and Southport.
Counterpoint is a member of the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA), and supports their many events and activities, including Choralfest. The group rehearses on Tuesday nights at Banyo.
Geena Luckin, Madeleine Sternberg, Fiona Leonard, Leah Barrett-Beck, Liz Pardey, Julie Pope, Kelly Banz and Ian Brown, with new recruit Andrew Evans.
